LAY OFF LEADS TO SWEET BUSINESS
Kettle Corn Provides Second Career for Lisbon Shoe Maker and His Wife

LISBON, Maine, January 10, 2005—Moe and Janis Moore, married nearly three decades, yearned to own their own business. And when Moe lost his job after making shoe models for a Lewiston manufacturer for more than 26 years, the couple decided to take a leap into entrepreneurship. Inspired by Isamax Snacks, a Richmond, Maine maker of whoopie pies that landed its wares on The Oprah Winfrey Show, the Moores launched MAC’s Kettle Corn in early 2004. The hand-popped, all-natural, kettle corn comes in the original slightly sweet flavor and specialty flavors of maple, honey, and cinnamon.

The Moores selected the kettle corn business because they wanted to sell a product that would attract repeat—and perhaps a little addicted—customers. In researching the business, the Moores found some mass-produced kettle corn options, but no hand-popped, all-natural products.

Even though they burned the first batch, soon the recipe was mastered and MAC's owners set out to sell at fairs, festivals, sporting events and retail stores throughout Maine. MAC's Kettle Corn Original Flavor is now available at more than 56 stores in 39 towns including Brunswick, Bath, West Bath, Lisbon, Lisbon Falls, Freeport, Richmond, Woolwich and Wiscasset. One special selling venue for the Moores is University of Maine-Orono hockey and football games, as their son Greg is a junior at the university.

As MAC's continues to expand to stores throughout Maine, Janis Moore is thrilled with the response from retailers. Moe and Janis started their sales rollout by bringing kettle corn samples to store owners, and enjoyed a 40% success rate getting MAC's Kettle Corn carried in stores. "Now stores are calling us, without any solicitation," explains Mrs. Moore, and, "Customers tell us it's the best kettle corn they've ever tasted."

Moe and Janis Moore grew up in Lisbon and attended Lisbon High School. They have two sons, Ryan and Greg. They reside in Lisbon. Learn more about MAC's Kettle Corn, or buy a bag online, at www.macskettlecorn.com. Call 207-576-1265 for information on store locations.
